Landscaping, Hardscaping & Lawn Care Done With Detail
Complete landscape installs, rock work, drainage, and licensed pre- and post-emergent weed control for homes, businesses, and public properties across Northeast Georgia.
Most landscape work looks fine on the day the truck leaves. What separates good work from work that lasts is everything you can't see in the photo: the compacted base under a patio, the slope on a drain line, the plant spaced for its size in five years instead of five weeks, the bed edge cut clean enough to hold its line through a Georgia summer.
That is the work we're known for. Hanco Lawn & Landscaping is the landscape division of the Hanco family of companies, the same family that has run Hanco Exterminating in Northeast Georgia since 2002. We design and install complete landscapes, build hardscapes and rock work, solve drainage problems, maintain commercial grounds, and handle public bid work. And unlike most landscapers, our team is licensed to apply the pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides that keep weeds out of everything we build.
Being family-owned isn't a slogan for us. It means the people who answer the phone are the people who own the company, decisions get made in a day instead of a week, and when something isn't right, the person who can fix it is one call away.
What We Do
Complete Outdoor Services
From a single drainage fix to a full commercial site, one crew handles the whole outdoor picture, so nothing falls between contractors.
In Georgia, applying herbicides on someone else's property for hire takes a state pesticide license. Most landscaping crews don't carry one, so they can plant your beds and lay your sod but can't legally put down the pre-emergent that keeps crabgrass and Poa annua out of it.
We can. Because we grew out of a licensed pest control company, our applicators are trained and licensed for pre-emergent and post-emergent weed control. The landscape we install is the landscape we protect, on the right calendar, with the right product for your turf.

Why Family-Owned Makes a Difference to You
You Talk to an Owner
Dan Handwork built this division and is still on job sites. Questions get answered by the people making the decisions, not passed through layers of management.
Our Name Is on the Truck
When the company carries your family's name, cutting a corner on a base layer or a drain slope isn't an option. Every job is a reference for the next one in a small-town market.
We Stick Around
We live in the communities we work in. If a plant fails or a paver settles, you won't be chasing a contractor who has moved on. You'll be calling a neighbor.
One Family, Two Divisions
Lawn, Landscape & Pest Protection Under One Roof
Hanco Lawn & Landscaping and Hanco Exterminating are run by the same family and work together. Fire ants in a new lawn, mosquitoes around a new patio, termite protection behind a new mulch bed: one call coordinates both crews.
We keep our service area tight on purpose. Staying close means faster response, crews who know local soils and slopes, and the kind of attention a sprawling territory can't deliver.
Practical, local guidance from our crews on clay soil, weed timing, drainage, and hardscape.

When to Apply Pre-Emergent in Northeast Georgia (and Why Timing Is Everything)
Pre-emergent only works if it's down before weed seeds germinate. Here's the calendar we follow from Jefferson to Toccoa, and what happens when the window is missed.
Georgia Red Clay and Standing Water: What Actually Fixes a Soggy Yard
Clay sheds water fast during storms and holds it for days afterward. Why aeration and sand rarely solve it, and how to tell when you need a drain, a swale, or regrading.
Why Patios Sink: The Base Work Most Installers Skip
Settled pavers and cracked slabs almost always trace back to what's underneath. What a proper base looks like, and the questions to ask before you hire.
We focus on Northeast Georgia from Jefferson to Toccoa, including Commerce, Maysville, Homer, Baldwin, Cornelia, Demorest, Clarkesville, Lavonia, Carnesville, Royston, and the surrounding communities in Jackson, Banks, Franklin, Habersham, and Stephens counties. Commercial and government projects can extend beyond that area. Call to confirm.
Do you do both residential and commercial work?
Yes. We handle residential landscape installs and maintenance, commercial grounds contracts, parking lot and site work, HOA common areas, and government and institutional bid projects.
What makes your weed control different from other landscapers?
Applying herbicides for hire in Georgia requires a state pesticide license, and many landscaping companies don't have one. Our applicators are licensed for pre-emergent and post-emergent weed control, so we can protect the turf and beds we install on the right schedule with products matched to your grass type.
Are estimates free?
Yes. We walk the property, listen to what you want, and give you a written estimate. For larger design-build or commercial projects, we'll talk through scope and phasing before pricing.
Are you related to Hanco Exterminating?
Yes. Both are divisions of the same family-owned company, Handwork Holdings, Inc. The two teams work together, so you can coordinate landscaping, lawn care, and pest, mosquito, or termite protection with one call.
